o Health
New Year,
New Diet???
With the new year upon us, there has been a lot of
talk in the
media, and probably in your home, about the need to
lose weight.
Weight loss is the number one New Year’s
resolution made in this
country. Unfortunately, few of us
follow through with our plans
over any extended period of time.
Now, here is another critical reason to lose
weight.
Two articles appearing in the
past few weeks in the
Journal of the American
Medical Association (JAMA)
and the Annals of Internal
Medicine indicate that
obesity can cut one’s
life span by up to twenty years.
Yep, it is everywhere, all over the media,
especially as the new
year rolls around. We keep adding those
pounds, and adding to
our own insanity about what to do about it.
And, if you are anything like me, you have tried everything.
I am officially a veteran of dieting, having begun my quest for
a thinner me since before my teen years. In the past 25 or so
years, I have tried low fat, no carb,
calorie counting programs
(actually paying for that abuse! (-:),
vegan, and, oh my, that
wonderful cabbage soup! Countless
others...all to no avail.
I even actually gained weight on a popular
carbohydrate based
meal replacement product, not naming names
here!
Out of all this, I have come to know a
couple of things - my
"Top Five" list for dieting!
Maybe you can identify
with these:
1. I love food, bottom line. Real
food. A variety of food, including
meat.
2. I hate counting calories, fat grams, and
carbs.
3. I am too busy to have a diet plan that is
complicated, and there
are other things I want to focus my mind on than
everything that
goes into my mouth.
4. Paying to be publicly humiliated is just
silly and bad for your
self-esteem!
5. All these diets have not worked for me,
and furthermore, I am
not only fatter now, I have ruined my metabolism
with constantly
throwing my body into starvation mode.

o Tips for Frugal Living!
n Stock up on great deals, and store them for maximum
preservation
time. Flour keeps well in the
freezer. Milk freezes for up to three months.
After thawing, shake well.
(Taste and look may be slightly affected.)
Chop and freeze bags of celery,
onions and carrots when on sale, and
you’ll save money and meal
preparation time.
n
Buying food in bulk is the best way to save money and packaging waste.
But be aware that studies show
large packages cause many people to consume
more of the product, be it
juice, crackers or cooking oil. Try tricking yourself by
transferring products to smaller
containers.
nWork is
good, but it's not that important. Money is nice, but you can't take
it with you. Statistics show
most people don't live to spend all they saved; some
die even before they retire.
Anything we have isn't really ours; it was given to us by
God; He just let us borrow it while we're
here....even our kids.
